For a girl growing up in a vulnerable household, education can be interrupted long before she gets the chance to decide what she wants her future to look like.
Financial pressure, social expectations, household responsibilities and limited access to schooling can all affect whether a girl continues her education. When a girl leaves school early, the loss is not limited to the classroom. It can also mean losing access to the knowledge, confidence and opportunities that education can provide.
This is why girl child education needs to be viewed as more than increasing school enrolment. It is about creating the conditions that allow girls to remain in education and use what they learn to shape their future.
